Verity’s Career Transition services were engaged in the closure of three mines in Northern Ontario that affected approximately 750 employees. Of these, 500 employees were leaving the organization immediately, and 250 managers had three months working notice to give them time to transition the work to other mines and close the locations.
Over three days, our team met onsite with all employees as a group and individually one-one-one with a consultant. We set up two offsite career centres: one for the 500 employees and one for the 250 managers. The centres were open for six months. In addition to regular one-on-one meetings with their designated career coach, all employees and managers had access to seminars on a variety of topics, as well as a Job Developer who found opportunities for those affected. We also provided comprehensive status reports to the organization on a weekly basis to give insight into the impact of their investment.
There were hundreds of new opportunities sourced by the Job Developer for the employees and managers affected. Approximately 80% of the individuals were re-employed within six months, including some who were hired back with the organization. At the end of the engagement, both those affected and the organization provided high satisfaction ratings.
